Bottom photo is the original Ly-Dells--the group known as The Ly-Dells..Gary William Young on the left, Walter Charles Hatfield center..William Thomas Daniels on the right...they met in 1959.  In 1959 the Ly-Dells kept Philadelphia in the limelight by releasing 14 songs over the next four years, the most recognized being “Wizard of Love”. In just five months it soared to number one and sold over a million copies.

Each went to different schools but had some of the same friends that they sang with.  When these guys  got together it seems to be magic in harmony...Billy and Chuck moved in with Gary and his family so they could practice every chance they could.

They introduced to the music industry what is known as octave harmony-- each man harmonizing eight notes away from the other  when breaking.

To this day no other group has copied their style so when you listen keep in mind this is three teens.

Billy hopes you enjoy listening to their music as much and they did making
it.

Hello Billy,

A sincere pleasure to meet you, as I had the privelege to be introduced to "The Ly-Dells" at age 5 in 1962,when I had the honor to do a voice track on an unreleased side at Sound Plus studios in 62'& later in Mar.63 on the session at Reco Art that produced the single "Karen". "The Ly-Dells" were the greatest white vocal group to emerge from West Philly during those early 60's,leaving a legacy of wonderful recordings. Over the years as a musician, radio personality, and musicologist, I continue to spread the word & music of the great "Ly-Dells"
